“Our responsibility is to ensure we make a meaningful contribution to the Matatiele Local Municipality so that service delivery reaches our people efficiently.”
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Matatiele have officially elected a new Sub-Regional structure, following the resolution to dissolve the previous regional leadership in order to strengthen grassroots visibility and service to the community. The highly contested conference, held at the Matatiele Royal Hotel Conference Centre, concluded successfully with the election of Fighter Khaya Qolo as Chairperson, Zanele Ncekana as Secretary, and Sentebale Mohoma as Treasurer.
According to the newly elected Sub-Regional Chairperson, Khaya Qolo, the conference was presided over by Commissar Ncedo, Commissar Mateas, Commissar Tembi Msani, and Coordinator Mzi Hlekiso. He described it as a successful, democratic, and highly contested gathering. One of the candidates who contested for leadership positions was former Regional Secretary, Siseko Sikhafunga. “As the newly elected EFF Sub-Regional structure of Matatiele, we are expected to organise and strengthen the branches across the municipality. Our responsibility is to ensure we make a meaningful contribution to the Matatiele Local Municipality so that service delivery reaches our people efficiently and without delay or scandals, there must be no mismanagement of funds,” explained Qolo.
The newly elected Chairperson further said, as the opposition party, they intend to maintain their role as the official opposition and work towards increasing their seats in council, with the ultimate goal of governing Matatiele. “We believe the EFF has already demonstrated capable leadership and shown the people of Matatiele our commitment to serve and work for them,” Qolo said.
He further confirmed that 75 delegates from 25 of the 27 wards in Matatiele attended the conference. “Now that we have a Sub-Regional structure, community members can walk into the EFF offices at any time when they need assistance. This structure makes the organisation more convenient, more practical, and closer to the people. It is for this reason that establishing a Sub-Regional leadership was necessary,” Qolo explained.
