According to the statement issued by the DA, the party is proud of the leadership it has deployed to senior positions in the Government of Provincial Unity. The DA has worked tirelessly to fight against corruption, promote accountability, and ensure equal opportunities for all.
As per the statement, under the leadership of Finance MEC Francois Rodgers, the Department of Finance has made significant strides in promoting cost containment, fighting corruption, and improving service delivery. The DA claims that MEC Rodgers has implemented measures to reduce non-essential spending while ensuring essential services are not compromised.
The statement further notes that MEC Rodgers has taken steps to conserve Ithala SOC Ltd, which has historically served a clientele not largely catered for by big commercial banks. Additionally, he has worked towards the financial independence of the AmaZulu Royal Household by laying the foundation for a beef production program, an initiative endorsed by His Majesty, King Misuzulu KaZwelithini.
As stated by the DA, MEC Rodgers has also demonstrated a commitment to transparency and accountability by inviting unions to participate in the budget process and committing to continuous open communication with KZN Treasury. The DA-led treasury department has deployed a team to assist with infrastructure rehabilitation and offer expertise on dealing with errant contractors.
The statement highlights that MEC Rodgers intervened in the Education Department and ensured that an extra R800 million was released to pay teachers and continue critical school projects. The DA-led department has also introduced an e-tendering system, which will move all tender processes online and root out corruption.
