ANC prepares for NGC

The African National Congress (ANC) in Alfred Nzo Region recently convened a Regional General Council (RGC) meeting, a crucial gathering that brought together party members to discuss key issues and shape the party’s direction. The meeting was an important step in preparing for the National General Council (NGC) and addressing pressing challenges facing the party in the region.

According to the regional secretary Pulelo Mohale, the RGC meeting focused on discussing the process plan leading up to the NGC, as well as draft policies and Acts that will be considered by party members. The secretary highlighted the importance of these discussions in shaping the party’s stance on critical issues. Some of the specific policies and Acts discussed included the Communications Act, Traditional Bill, and Division of Revenue Act, as well as social grants.

The regional secretary emphasized the need for a more equitable Division of Revenue Act, citing the challenges faced by rural areas like Matatiele. He noted that the cost of providing services such as water and electricity can be significantly higher in rural areas due to the dispersed nature of settlements and the hilly terrain. For example, the cost of servicing each household can vary greatly depending on the location and infrastructure requirements. The secretary suggested that the current allocation may not be sufficient to meet the needs of these communities, and that a more different approach is needed to address these challenges.

Furthermore, the RGC meeting allowed ANC members to discuss issues facing the region and consider draft policies ahead of the NGC. After the policies were tabled, members were tasked with writing down their concerns and suggestions. The ANC regional structure will then visit each branch to present these policies and engage in discussions with its members on the branch level.
