ANC Alfred Nzo Regional Deputy Convener Tsileng Sobuthongo during the meeting held at Mbizana

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Alfred Nzo region is gearing up for the 2026 local government elections. Recently, they hosted their first Local Election Team (LET) phase one meeting, where they discussed critical issues and strategies for approaching the upcoming elections and to assess the election structures. The meeting was attended by the Regional Election Team, Provincial Election Team, Branch Election Team, VD Coordinators and ANC caucus.

According to the deputy convener of the region Tsileng Sobuthongo, the focus of the LET meeting was to implement phase one of the LET structures. This phase is crucial in setting the tone for the ANC’s election preparations. Sobuthong explained that the meeting aimed to identify areas where the ANC needs to improve, particularly in service delivery. “We are focusing on the areas that we had issues with service delivery, where people were complaining about service delivery, for instance in ward 17 in particular, had a low voter turnout due to concerns about road conditions in the past elections,” she said.

Continuing, Tsileng said by tackling these issues head-on, the ANC aims to gain a deeper understanding of community concerns and develop effective strategies to address them. She said this approach also enables the ANC to prepare for the upcoming elections, where they’ll need to appeal not only to their affiliate members but also to the broader community. By focusing on the concerns of all voters, the ANC hopes to regain trust and support.

In conclusion, the deputy convener emphasized the importance of unity within the ANC as they approach the elections. “Now that the elections are coming, it’s normal for ANC members to have different views and disagree, but we will put our differences aside and focus on the elections, serving the ANC without any divisions,” she concluded.

Meanwhile, the ANC in the Eastern Cape has announced roadmap for regional conferences, according to the ANC; the PEC adopted the cuts-of date for branches and membership to participate in BGM processes.  The ANC claims that, regional conference roadmap could not be implemented as the membership system is not yet functioning optimally. β€œIt is common knowledge that the PEC expressed disappointment that the matter of membership system continues to be an burden to the renewal of both the organization and the structures, hence calls for the SGO to speedily attend to all the problems with the system as quickly as possible,” said the ANC in the statement. In addition the PEC therefore reviewed the adopted Regional Conference Roadmap and adopted a revised roadmap for regional conference in Alfred Nzo and other regions and the date for the Alfred Nzo region and OR Tambo conference date is 23-25 May 2025.
