Empowering Entrepreneurs in Kokstad

The Greater Kokstad Municipality, in partnership with the Harry Gwala District Development Agency, iThala Development Finance Corporation, and Vision Africa the accredited skills development provider, recently hosted a workshop in Kokstad aimed at empowering local entrepreneurs. The workshop, which took place over three days, trained 150 entrepreneurs in various aspects of business development.

According to a representative from Vision Africa Asanda Mahlaba, the training program covered essential topics such as business fundamentals, introduction to AI, business compliance, financial literacy, business growth, and access to support. The program also provided information on IThala funding’s and available opportunities. “The training is designed to equip entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their businesses,” said Mahlaba.  She further metion that they cover various topics, from business fundamentals to access to finance, and provide practical workbooks with solutions to common business challenges.

On the final day of the training, an awarding ceremony was held for 150 entrepreneurs, where they received certificates and T-shirts from Ithala. IThala will also keep a database of participants for future training opportunities. This platform created an opportunity for existing entrepreneurs and those aspiring to join the business industry to learn more about business and, also used the opportunity to network.  

Shanel Nayager, Co-Director of Rest Assured Financial Services and Business Consultants, attended the three-day business course and shared her experience: “The program provided valuable insights that will help us better position our business, enhance our marketing strategies, and strengthen our brand presence within the community. I truly commend the municipality and Ithala for this initiative, which plays a vital role in equipping local entrepreneurs with the knowledge and tools needed to grow and sustain successful businesses,” said Nayeger.

The workshop demonstrates the municipality’s commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs and promoting economic growth in the community. By providing valuable training and resources, the initiative aims to empower entrepreneurs to succeed and contribute to the local economy.
