The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) in the Eastern Cape has voiced their frustration and anger, following the recent reports and a trading video of mother who is devastated by the rape of her 7-year old child. The ANC says they are enraged and horrified by this incident that took place in October 2024 where a 7-year old was allegedly dehumanized and rape in the school premises of Bergview Collage in Matatiele.
According to the ANCWL, they are extremely concerned by the alarming incidents of reported cases especially sexual violence against children. The ANCWL says these unfortunate incidents come at a time when society is currently confronted by Gender Based Violence acts across. “This serves as a devastating reminder of a deeply rooted act of discrimination and violation of human rights and dignity of women and children in paces meant to protect and nurture them,” said the ANCWL.
Furthermore, the ANCWL says rape is a heinous crime, degrading, invasive and a very traumatizing experience for victims. They say, it has psychologically shattering effects especially on a child. “These incidents spark deep concern in our communities, raising urgent questions about the safety and protection of children and adolescents, especially in the hands of people who they trust at home and in schools. For minors justice must be immediate so as to shield them from further trauma and prolonged healing process,” said the ANCWL. The ANC further commend the support shown by different organizations and the community of the EC in support of the JusticeForeweewe call, emphasizing that they are in full support of the victim and her family members during this trying time.
In addition the ANCWL strongly demand answers and accountability from the school authorities. “We are calling for action and speeding up of the investigation, we want to state clearly that all parties involved must face the rule of law. We further demand the school principal to lead by example and meet the demands and the will of the public by being accountable,” explained ANCWL. In conclusion the ANCWL clams, they remain steadfast in their commitment to fight for women and children’s rights. “We join hands with the EC community, women and children’s organizations and LGBTQI + community to call and fight for Justice for the beautiful Cwecwe, we are calling for all relevant departments to provide all necessary support and comforting services to the victims,” concluded the ANCWL.
