Workshop equips Kokstad businesses with compliance and funding tools

Access to Finance and Business Compliance Workshop hosted by GKM

Small businesses and cooperatives in Kokstad received a boost this week following a business development workshop aimed at improving compliance and access to funding.

The “Access to Finance and Business Compliance Workshop” was hosted through a partnership between the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) and the Greater Kokstad Local Municipality at the Bhongweni Youth Centre. Organised by EDTEA’s Small Business Development Unit, the workshop brought together local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and cooperatives to gain practical knowledge on business compliance requirements and accessing financial support.

Officials said the initiative forms part of on-going efforts to stimulate local economic growth and strengthen entrepreneurship, while aligning with the objectives of the National Development Plan 2030. Participants were equipped with key insights into financial management, regulatory obligations and strategies to improve business sustainability. The session also aimed to empower local enterprises to expand their operations and contribute meaningfully to the region’s economic development. The partnership between EDTEA and the municipality is expected to continue rolling out similar programmes to support small businesses and drive inclusive growth in the area.
