DA Questions NFP’s Motive Behind GPU Withdrawal

NFP during media briefing

According to the statement issued by the DA, the Democratic Alliance KwaZulu-Natal (DA KZN) has taken note of the National Freedom Party’s (NFP) decision to withdraw from the Government of Provincial Unity (GPU) in KZN. While the DA respects the NFP’s prerogative, it questions the motive behind this decision.

The DA is aware that the NFP is grappling with internal leadership differences, but believes that these issues should not destabilize the provincial government. The party finds it regrettable that the NFP’s decision will result in the removal of MEC Mbali Shinga from the KZN Legislature and her position as MEC for Social Development.

The DA has found MEC Shinga to be one of the best-performing members of the Provincial Executive, and its view is that the motive behind the NFP’s decision is questionable, particularly since it does not appear to be related to service delivery failures.
