“We demand that MM Lizo Matiwane must do his duties and not be pressured by the new ANC REC.”
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Matatiele Local Municipality has expressed outrage over the alleged interference by the new African National Congress (ANC) Regional Executive Committee (REC) in the hiring process for the Manager of Public Participation position. According to the DA, the ANC REC has been pressuring Municipal Manager Lizo Matiwane to postpone interview scheduled for July 30 and August 8 2025.
The DA claims that the ANC’s actions are motivated by a desire to reserve the position for Speaker Winkie Ngwanya, who is no longer an REC member and would need to vacate her position for Councilor Susan Mokhesi, the new REC and MPAC chairlady. The DA views this as blatant corruption, where the interests of the people of Matatiele are being sacrificed for the benefit of ANC insiders.
The DA has demanded that Municipal Manager Lizo Matiwane resist pressure from the ANC REC and ensure that the hiring process is conducted fairly and transparently. “We demand that MM Lizo Matiwane must do his duties and not be pressured by the new ANC REC,” said the DA Chief Whip Wonga Potwana. He further emphasized that the DA will closely monitor the process to ensure that it is free from interence and corruption.
However, the African National Congress Regional Secretary Pulelo Mohale dismisses these allegations made by the DA regarding interference in the hiring process of the Manager of Public Participation position in Matatiele Local Municipality. “These claims are baseless and motivated by the desire to sow discord and undermine the ANC’s reputation. The ANC is committed to transparency and fairness in all its processes and we will continue to uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability in the municipality,” said the Regional Secretary Pulelo Mohale. In addition Mohale emphasized that, there is no way that the Regional Chairperson made that call, as she understands better that anyone how the ANC works.
