In a crackdown on expired food products, a joint team of government authorities and municipal officials conducted a raid on major retails shops in Kokstad, seizing expired items from Kokstad Spar and Shoprite. This operation follows a decision by the municipality and government authorities to inspect prominent retail shops, including Kokstad Spar, Shoprite and Boxer Supermarket.
According to the Greater Kokstad Municipality, the primary objective of the inspection was to ensure compliance with health and safety standards, particularly regarding the sale of expired products. In a joint operation that includes Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) Cluster, GKM Units that is, Disaster Management, Fire and Rescue, LED, Planning and Building Control, Community Safety together with the SAPS, Home Affairs and all Law Enforcement authorities around Kokstad they managed to confiscate some food items.
Amongst the outlets that were inspected by the authorities are Kokstad Spar, Shoprite and Boxer Supermarket. GKM emphasized expired food items were confiscated at Kokstad Spar and Shoprite and necessary actions were taken and fines were issued to ensure the heinous act of selling expired goods does not happen again. In addition GKM say their operations are ongoing to ensure that they curb the spread of food borne illnesses. “We remain at ZERO infection of food borne illnesses, and we call upon all businesses to continue adhering to the required Health and Safety standards. The few that still resist compliance will face the full might of the law,” GKM emphasized.
